What is sculpture? With impressive continuity it testifies to man's evolving sense of reality, and fulfills the necessity to express what cannot be verbalized.

An Inspiring Mistake

Culling slides taken years earlier proved to be an experience with lasting effects.  One slide was discarded because my shadow was visible – a seeming mistake in photographic composition.  However, something about the thought of a shadow fascinated me.  I retrieved the slide and looked more closely.  My shadow!  It proves I exist!  My shadow located me in time and space.  A shadow, as opposed to hiding the light, is a confirmation of something being in the light.

Light is mysterious.  While we can see its glow, it seems to have no actual substance.  It cannot be said to even exist except as a presence.  Like wind, light is detected by the effect it has on objects.  When light hits an object, the object becomes visible and the shadow that is cast provides another confirmation of its existence.
